Stunning election Win in New Forest East

Julian Lewis was returned to Westminster with a victory which surpassed all expectations. After a long hard-fought campaign, during which his Liberal Democrat opponent had stated that his internal polling was predicting victory, a close result was expected.

In the end the voters gave Julian an emphatic endorsement, increasing his majority from 3,829 to 6,551.

2005 (2001)

Julian Lewis 21,975 (17,902)

Brian Dash (LD) 15,424 (14,073)

Labour 5,492 (9,141)

UKIP 2,344 (1,062)

In an address after the declaration Dr. Lewis attacked his Labour opponent for colluding with the Liberal Democrats in an attempt to get Labour voters to vote for the Lib Dems. Clearly this ploy had not worked.
