DIBDEN BAY - LIBERAL DEMOCRATS RE-WRITE HISTORY
Liberal Democrats say that Hythe councillor, Brian Dash is the hero of Dibden Bay. It is true that Cllr. Dash supported the anti-port campaign led by Paul Vickers, Julian Lewis MP, and Residents against Dibden Bay Port - as he should have done. However it is not true to claim that, had it not been for Cllr. Dash and the Liberal Democrats on Hampshire County Council persuading the Council to change its policy and oppose port development in its structure plan, a Dibden Bay port would have happened.
Hampshire's Strategic Plan 1996-2011 was agreed and approved by the then Liberal Democrat-Labour administration running the Council (1993-1997). In it, the policy was for Dibden Bay to be developed. The policy was therefore a Liberal Democrat/Labour one.
As soon as the incoming Conservative administration saw AB Ports plans for Dibden Bay, the Council resolved to oppose them.
